Food Access for a Lifetime
Healthy Food = Stronger Communities
Having reliable access to adequate nutrition is important for everyone’s health as we age.
Yet many eligible older adults are missing out on the benefits of SNAP each month in Missouri, often due to misconceptions and stigma.
Food Access for a Lifetime aims to spread awareness and clear up confusion about SNAP, as well as advocate for statewide policy changes that will increase the ease of participation for older adults.
Why? Because healthy food access = stronger communities.
And every Missourian deserves to prioritize nutrition at every age.
Did you know?
Over 220,000 Missourians over the age of 50 do not have access to enough nutritious food.
45% of the older adults in the U.S. who are eligible for SNAP benefits are not using them.
Over 80% of older adult SNAP participants receive a higher amount than the $23 per month minimum; the average is $118 per month.
